I sell on Etsy from 2011. I was helping to sell on Etsy from 2008 for my mother in law.
From very beginning I was searching for answers by myself on internet. I have read many articles, analysed many methods and now I do have my own tips for selling on Etsy.
Here I will share 4 of them. You understand that there is many of them and we could discuss over night with no coffee breaks on all topics. Also, I think you will agree - best advice can be given from person who experienced it.
So let's start.
1. Think about items that" sells". It might be you are creating something really original, but do people really need to buy it? Would you buy it by yourself? Some critique from friends or other Etsy sellers would be really usefull. Do not hesitate to ask. Even if at the end you will come with totally different product - it may be the main point of successful selling. People buy things that they need. If you would like to expose your works you do not need put them on Etsy. There are many online galleries for free.
2. Good and attractive photos. :) You will say everybody says that and everybody knows it. But - do you have them already these good photos? If you do not know how to take them - ask friend to teach. YES - not to take photos, but better to teach take good photos with the photo equipment you own. Believe me - even with iPhone it is possible to have good pics and suitable for Etsy listings. You will spent only 1 day and will have long lasting experience for taking photos that sells.
3. Descriptive titles and listing descriptions. If it is not your strong side - ask some copywriter for help. Good investment. If you will sell similar items you will need 4 or 5 really strong and seo friendly descriptions. After you will change some details like size, color and etcc.. Again - it is long lasting investment. Analyze descriptions of similar items on Etsy and other selling venues. Never copy paste them - it is better shorter description than copied one.
4. Backlinks,social media, being on internet ocean. If you registered on Etsy, paying for search ads, have good product,photos, descriptions, tags - that doesn't mean that people will buy from you. Be sure - you will need to put in more than just list the items. You can pay for internet marketing, seo or you can do it buy yourself as I did, but it costs a lot of time....
